Overview

IRONMAN African Championship is widely considered as one of the most spectacular races on the calendar being a favourite on the European race circuit for over a decade.

The day begins with a one-lap, 3.8km swim course beginning on Hobie Beach. The water temperature is usually in the mid-70’s and the seas is often calm.

The new bike course takes athletes out on two laps of 90km. The route starts along the coast at Marine Drive, delivering sweeping views of the ocean and the rugged coastline, before heading towards the breath-taking Maitlands. You will enjoy protection from the easterly wind as you head through the suburbs of Port Elizabeth on this smooth, fast bike course.

The spectator filled run course which happens to be rated as the best running course in the world, consists of four laps to make up the 42.2km run route. Enjoy the support of the spectators all the way, as the run course has been diverted to include the Driftsands residential area at the turn-around.
