Located in Buffalo City, East London is a gateway to the popular Eastern Cape tourist routes, the Sunshine Coast and Wild Coast.
Road closures will allow the athletes to safely navigate the course while enjoying the inherent beauty of the landscape. There is 65 qualifying slots for the 2020 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Taupō, New Zealand up for grabs.

Overview

Located in Buffalo City, East London is a gateway to the popular Eastern Cape tourist routes, the Sunshine Coast and Wild Coast.

The area offers miles of beachfront and rich cultural history for tourists to enjoy. Visitors should check out the 200,000 fossilized footprints of man found in Nahoon’s Bat Cave or the world’s only dodo egg at the East London Museum. Amongst the multitude of sights to see, visitors may want to explore South Africa’s wildlife.

Athletes will begin their day with a 1.2-mile ocean swim in East London’s Orient Beach. Protected by the breakwaters of East London’s harbor, athletes can expect generally calm and warm waters.

The rolling hills of the 56-mile bike course will be a challenge. Road closures will allow the athletes to safely navigate the course while enjoying the inherent beauty of the landscape.

A 13.1-mile, flat run will consist of two-loops with spectacular ocean views. Finishers will be greeted in true style with African dancers, music and spectators.

There is 65 qualifying slots for the 2020 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Taupō, New Zealand up for grabs.

ARRIVAL

We will pick you up from the airport and transfer you to your hotel.

EASY GROUP RUN

Meeting in front of your hotel at 7:30am your team leader will take you for an easy 30 min run on a section of the course.

TOUR PACKET COLLECTION

Guest will have the option to collect their tour package from the tour operator at the hotel.

EXPO AND RACE REGISTRATION

Today you will have the opportunity to go to the expo where you will be able to register and check out the exhibitors.
Registration at Garden Court Hotel: 09:00-18:00
Expo in Premier Hotel ICC: 09:00 – 18:00

BIKE COURSE ORIENTATION

At 15:00 the bus will collect the athletes from the hotel and we will head out on the bike route. The round trip should take approximately 2 hours to complete.

During the bike course orientation, the tour operator will explain T1 and T2 entry and exit, point out the climbs and explain the effect of the wind and road surface.

Once the bike route familiarisation is complete, the bus will drop the athletes off at their hotel to get ready for race briefing.

RACE BRIEFING

Athletes attend the official race briefing at the Orient Theatre. Briefing starts at 18:00

This morning we meet for swim training. Location to be confirmed. Afterwards you will be greeted with coffee and cold drinks.

You will check in your bikes and bags at between 14:00-17:00. Please meet your tour leader at the front of your hotel where he will walk with you to transition area.

RACE BRIEFING 2

Athletes attend the official race briefing at the Orient Theatre. Briefing starts at 17:15

RACE MORNING

Wake up, get ready and move to the swim start!

Spectator’s look out for our special RacePace tents. There will be coffee and drink available in this area for the spectators.

After watching the swim, the spectators can go back to their hotels for breakfast. Once they have had their breakfast and are ready to get back to the action, they can move towards the official RacePace spectator area where they will be looked after for the day. There will coverage from the sun, seating and basic drinks throughout the day.

SLOT ALLOCATION AND AWARDS CEREMONY

17:00 Athletes can attend slot allocation in the Orient Theatre. This is walking distance from your hotel and no transfers are required.

The physio team will be available during the day for any of the athletes that would like to get some treatment after the event.

19:30 – 22:00 Awards ceremony and dinner held in the evening at the Premier ICC .
